Born of Necessity and Pragmatic Functionalism?

How's aboout we write our own Tale on this one... How in the world did this house ever come to be and WHO in thier right mind is going to pay $629,000 for it!!??

I dont know about you but all I see is a pile of boxes!

Apparently, this 1200 sqare foot pile of "rotating" plywood boxes with laundry facilities specified as "LAUNDROMAT" will soon be featured on HGTV.

But don't get all excited and race right out this Sunday to catch the open house... It's being shown by "appointment only".

Here's the listings description as it reads on its ZipRealty.com listing sheet:

"Live in art! Extraordinary single-family house constructed newly in 2006, will be featured at hgtv, dwell and wallpaper magazine. There is no house like this. Marin plywood siding with sparurethane finish, rotating 3 boxes with 4 corner-skylights at each level to gain more natural light. Total 9 skylights. Innovative contemporary design using materials and forms that are born of necessity and pragmatic functionalism. Showing by appointment only."

  • I love the way it looks. It could be overpriced based on the size, the layout of the space, and the location-- and at that price, it probably is. But I don't think the looks are worth mocking.

  • aaron,

I dont really mean to "mock it".

You just dont see something like that everyday!

1200 sq foot, low facilities, no yard, and its essentially 3 boxes piled up on top each other for 629K.

Sounds like kinda risky purchase to me...

  • One might have one point of view as an artistic admirer and quite a different point of view as a neighbor.

One man's art could be another's eyesore.

Sorry, but if this house was sitting on an average sized Cambridge lot next to your home, you might have some concern about your property value.

Isn't that why we put up with Zoning Boards in the first place?

Sorry, but IMHO, this house is butt ugly. Only thing that could make it more ugly is if they painted each box a different primary color!

  • What?

Are you guys really afraid to mock this POS?

Look, some art is beautiful and some is ugly. This thing is ugly. Deal with it.
